Val d’Orcia Terre Senesi: natural beauty!

Published on I GRANDI VINI Magazine - July 2012

An organic reality among the hills of Val d’Orcia

The beginning of all this was a simple idea of four friends: “We worked in Milan, as entrepreneurs, but we heard the strong call of the land” says Antonio Rovito, managing director of Val d’Orcia Terre Senesi “so we decided to come here to grow our first two hectares of vineyards (in a 30 hectares estate)”. Later they started to cooperate with Gabriella Giannetti (and her 30 hectares of Podere San Savino), who now is responsible for the two estates. With the precious help of the agronomist Andrea Bruni and of the oenologist Andrea Mazzoni, these hectares are going to develop to produce excellent organic wines: “Bucaccio” Orcia Doc, 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, “Riparosa” rosè made of Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo, Orcia Bianco and Vin Santo, a grappa aged in barrique and a white grappa. But the group has many other projects, like corn bread, a production of autochthonous varieties like Foglia Tonda and Pungitello, a photo-voltaic system, guided tours for students and much more. It worth a visit!
